‘Indian traders will become bonded slaves of the multi-national companies (MNC) after business operations of FDI in Retail sector as the MNC will control and dominate the retail trade’, opined most of the trade leaders from 20 States of India while staging Protest Dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi September 27, 2012. The protestors were with black strips on mouth and Handcuffs duly locked.

As expression of strong resentment and anguish over allowing FDI in Retail sector by the Government of India, Protestors demonstrated with a tableau in which it was shown that the Government is on Ventilator sucking the blood of the retail trade of India.

However, the union government run by UPA and led by Congress has remained unmoved by any kind of oppositions to its FDI plan saying that the bill would rather help the farmers and small business enterprises of India.

In order to make the government reconsider its decision, ‘it has been unanimously resolved to intensify agitation nationwide by roping in organisations of Farmers, Hawkers, Trade Unions, Transporters, Self-employed people and other stakeholders to give a wider shape to the agitation’, said CAIT National President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal adding that stakeholders down the line shall also be sensitised on the issue.

As a part of their action plan, the traders all over the Country will observe "Meet the MP & MLA Campaign" from 1st October to 15th October. On 2nd October, the birthday of champion of Quit India Movement Mahatama Gandhi, the trade associations in different states will observe the day as Sadbuddhi Divas (Conscience Day) during which the traders and other people will gather at statute of Mahatama Gandhi in their respective cities and pray to awaken the conscience of people in the ruling. On 23rd October, a day before Dussehra, the traders will burn the FDI demon that, they feel, is nothing short of demon Ravan.

CAIT is to observe the month of November 2012 as "National Awareness Month" with series of Seminars, Workshops, Traders’ Meetings, Protest March, Dharna and Demonstrations across the Country in order to apprise the people how MNCs are going to take control of our national economy and the retail trade of India. A massive rally Traders, Farmers, Hawkers, and Transporters is also planned for which the date is to be finalised in a meeting on 9th October, 2012 at New Delhi.
