Pallibani - A taste of Orissa in New Delhi

The Eleventh Anniversary of Pallibani - the literary mouthpiece of Oriyas in Delhi - has been solemnized in the Speaker Hall of Constitution Club in New Delhi on May 4, 2008 in the evening.

On this occasion, Pallibani Mission awarded the Pallishree Samman to four noted Oriya Personalities living outside Orissa who excelled in their work field and made Orissa proud.

This year's awardees were Mr. Nilambara Rath, Chief News Coordinator - ETV Oriya News and Mr. Chhayakanta Nayak for their contribution in the field of Journalism, and Mr. Debi Prasad Dash and Mr. Akhil Mishra for their contribution in the field of literature.

The ceremony was attended by a select gathering of intellectual and literature loving Oriya population of Delhi. In his opening address Dr. S N Dash, Secretary Heavy Industries, shared his experience of joy on receiving a magazine in mother tongue when you are far away from your land and congratulated Oriya magazine Pallibani for its publication since last 12 years without interruption.

Dr. Arun Rath, Secretary School Education lauded the efforts of Shri Ramachandra Nath in continuing the tradition for such a long time when established magazines are finding it difficult to sustain. He also called upon the literature loving people to patronize such effort in order to save the language and Oriya literature in the national capital.

Dr. Prasanna Patasani, eminent poet and MP made an emotional appeal to the gathering to read and buy Oriya literature publications to make it grow. Mr. P K Bandopadhyay, DG AIR News and an eminent Bangla poet shared his opinions about the importance of literature in enriching our life. The founder editor of Pallibani, Shri Ramachandra Nath thanked all the dignitaries and audience for their support for all these years and shared the difficult journey he passed through to keep the publication alive.

Editor of the magazine Shri Ramachandra Nath placed the demand correct the spelling of Oriya in constitution, which is mentioned as “Udiya” in Hindi. This has gained immediate acceptance of the audience and members on the podium. Dr. P K Bandopadhyay, DG-News AIR has assured to rectify the mistake in his office and AIR Bulletin services.

Noted Journalist, Poet and Advocate Shri Biraja Mohapatra acted as the Anchor coordinator of the entire anniversary function.
